College Visit Tips in the Time of COVID-19
It’s not a surprise that COVID-19, and the desire to avoid getting the virus, have changed the way many of us are doing business.
Skyler Miller is my guest blogger this week. Skyler has recently completed the college search process. Skyler is currently a senior at University High School on the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. He plans to run track in college.
I asked Skyler to blog a bit about looking for a college during COVID-19. Thank you, Skyler!

The college search during the Covid-19 Pandemic has been a challenge. Throughout my college search, I have come across many different angles on the colleges’ precautions for COVID.
Some universities will not allow you in buildings, some just do not let you into specific locations to not risk infecting students, and others had no restrictions on going into places.
Before the pandemic I toured two different schools, with students on campus and life as normal and you could experience how it truly felt to be there. With many colleges hosting tours while students are off campus, or a vast majority are, it is hard to grasp how student life is and how the schools feel with students. It is also hard contacting the admissions offices due to the limited face-to-face interactions with people. The counselors and students that have given tours and worked at ways to try to give students experiences, have been amazing.
Throughout the search, expect phone calls, texts, and emails from the admissions counselors and do not be afraid to reach out to them first.
Skyler, thank you again for your wise and encouraging words. I know you will do well not only in college, but wherever life takes you!
